With different scenarios, there are different tasks to accomplish after assigning or changing assigned nameservers.
Tasks After Reassigning Nameservers
- Operational Important Note: These tasks give you a knowledgeable overview of what’s typically done after assigning or reassigning NameServers to any domain. So, after reviewing this page, continue to follow any detailed steps if you’re already following a set of specific checklists.
- For example, if executing checklists on the Complete Setup Guide for this VPS, you can return to the section “Assign/Reassign NameServers” and continue after the step Assign Nameservers at Domain’s Registrar.
- If the nameservers were the originally host’s default, supplied nameservers, there’s typically nothing special to do, other than continuing with the usual steps with configuring any new domain.
- If the nameservers were changed from a CDN’s Nameservers’ requirement and then reassigned to this server, the task often requires a full cache clearing. Also, this also typically involved DNS changes, then an update to the DNS records are also to be addressed. For example, your checklist might have you already tasked to remove the DNS zone from the CDN (BEFORE changing the Nameservers away from the CDN) and then LATER tasked to reapply it after the DNS records and refreshed SSL certificates are updated.
- Nameservers can also be the source of SSL certificates so, if the domain has been assigned away from, or added to, this account domain’s server, then a change to SSL also involves some necessary steps to follow. It’s important to remove, or add, the domain from/to this server’s SSL management. Follow any checklist you’ve been already following; however, you can review some of those things at appropriate sections on the page: SSL Certificates.
