Purpose
This post adds an additional domain to a DirectAdmin VPS that already has a fully configured account domain.
Additional domains reuse very small portions of the server‑level foundation established by the account domain.
This post focuses only on creating an additional domain. Configuration steps are in other checklists, as depicted in the complete setup guide.
Scope and Applicability
- Applies to Additional Domains only
- Requires a completed and verified Account Domain
- Repeatable for each additional domain added to the server
- Does not cover subdomains or addon domains
Prerequisites
- This section is ONLY if you’ve already added an initial, first domain (aka “Account Domain”) on this VPS. And, the account domain should already be fully configured.
- Also, this server must already be fully configured, e.g., functions like SSL, Mail, etc.
- If domain still exists on another server, you MUST ensure to have removed it from that other server. For example, ensure its removed from that server’s DNS records and any CDN’s zones.
If the domain previously existed on another server, ensure all migration and cleanup steps are complete before proceeding.
If updates are pending, apply them before you start other steps:
Add the Additional Domain in DirectAdmin
If prerequisites are satisfied, continue with these steps if you’re adding another domain to this server.
- Logon to DirectAdmin as ‘admin’ to: https://<Server Name>.<Account Domain Name>:2222/
- From DirectAdmin Control Panel | USER:
- Go to <Account Manager> | <Domain Setup> & confirm the new domain is not already showing in domains list. If it exists, skip remaining steps in this subsection.
- Click <+ Add New>. Then create it as follows.
- Domain: <domain name>
- Bandwidth: (default = Same as Main account)
- Disk Usage: (default = Same as Main account)
- Options (selected defaults): Secure SSL, CGI Access, PHP Access
- Click <Create>.
- If you were executing a checklist that sent you here, return to continue that checklist. Or, continue with steps after adding an additional domain for any remaining configurations (like SSL, Mail, etc.), as shown in the complete setup guide.
Operational Notes
- Once submitted, DirectAdmin creates the added domain object and makes it available throughout the control panel.
Immediate Confirmation
Before proceeding, confirm the following:
- The domain appears in domain listings
